| Applications for ABARE’s 2009 Vacation Employment Program are now CLOSED. |
| Each year ABARE offers up to ten places for third year students in their penultimate year, majoring in economics or related discipline, for employment during the university vacation in January and February. We expect the performance of candidates to be at honours level. ABARE’s Vacation Employment Program is a great way to obtain paid work prior to entering into an honours year and will also provide useful perspective on the type of work offered to graduates within the organisation. The Program normally runs for 6 weeks, during which time Vacation Employees are employed under the terms and conditions of the DAFF Collective Agreement 2006-09. Salaries for Vacation Employees will be $36,828 per annum pro rata. A full copy of the Collective Agreement is available at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Website. All ABARE Vacation Employment positions are located in Canberra and will be based in our offices in Civic ACT. Financial assistance is not provided for travel and accommodation. ABARE can assist with general information on accommodation options if required. ABARE takes the professional development aspect of its Vacation Employment Program seriously, and will do its utmost to ensure that employees are engaged on meaningful projects under the supervision of talented and experienced managers. We will also seek to accommodate preferences for placement within the organisation wherever possible. Any enquiries about professional aspects of the program can be directed to Jane Melanie on 02 6272 2349 or by email to jmelanie@abare.gov.au. Queries on general employment matters can be directed to ABARE’s HR Adviser, Peter Cahill, on 02 6272 2022 or to Ms Emma Barratt on 02 6272 2372.
